Caribbean Medical Schools

Caribbean Medical Schools

Currently there are 18 Caribbean Medical Schools all of which are offering the same curriculum as you would find in any medical school in the US. In fact you will find that the majority of these schools are actually affiliated to hospitals in the US and most of these are located in the Northeast of the country.

Today more and more students are applying to attend such medical schools in order to pursue their dream of becoming a doctor. One such school is AUC which is based in St Maarten's in the Caribbean and the admission procedures as well as the standards that they require from their students are as rigorous as any medical school in the US.

Their facilities are completely state of the art and all their faculty members either have MDs or PhDs in teaching medicine which they have gained from universities either in the USA or Great Britain. The facilities are also very modern and the laboratories are fully equipped with the latest equipment. They also have a very extensive medical library and computer suite for their students to use.

Although this school has an accreditation that it has been provided with by the Accreditation Commission of Colleges of Medicine. However even so the US Department of Education has been able to determine that the accreditation standards used by this Commission are comparable to those that are used and are applicable to all Medical Schools in the US. The AUC is one of only 3 schools in the Caribbean which has been able to meet these requirements. So any student wish to attend the AUC can actually apply for and in most cases obtain a federal guaranteed student loan.

Even though the above school mentioned above does provide you with an accreditation not all Caribbean medical schools are accredited by all states in the US. Certainly New York, California and Florida all have stringent processes in place when it comes to employing people who have gained their qualifications through a medical school in the Caribbean. So therefore it is important that you find out from your State board of Medical Examiners what you are required to have in the way of accreditation before you decide to carry out your training at a medical school in the Caribbean.
