Medical School Admissions Test

All medical school admission tests consist of 3 sections. This test is more commonly referred to as the MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) and comprises the following:-

1. Multiple Choice Questions
2. Standardized Questions
3. Writing Skills

This test was designed to assess various skill sets of those who wish to enter medical school. They would be assessed on their knowledge relating to scientific principles and their concepts. They would look to see how the students could cope with solving problems, how they think critically and their writing capabilities. In short this test not only looks at the knowledge the person has but what aptitude they have for becoming a medical professional.

This particular test was developed by the AAMC (Association of American Medical Colleges) along with its members (US Medical Schools). A person has the opportunity to sit this test at the established centers across the US in April and August of each year and a student is allowed to sit the test twice during the same year. Generally it is recommended that those wishing to apply to medical school should sit this test around 18 months before they actually intend to enter into their training. However most schools today prefer that the students sit the exam in April and then this provides them with plenty of time to not only complete the application process for that student but also ensure that they have the results back in time for the start of the term. However if a person does need to sit the test in August then these are organized in such a way to ensure that the results are provided to the school in order to meet application deadlines.

In order for a person to gain a place at medical school they will need to sit this test as it helps them to evaluate the application of each and every student that applies to them. Generally it takes around 60 days for a person's MCAT results to be released upon completion of the test so therefore taking the test as early as possible if a person wants to be assured of getting their place at medical school.

When it comes to registering for taking any medical school admissions test a person will need to apply online at www.aamc.org/mcat. They will need to register between 8 to 12 weeks prior to them actually taking the test and you are able to check 5 months prior to find out on what date the tests are being sat and so the exact date for when you can register for it. It is important that you register as soon as you possibly can then this will help to ensure that you are able to take the test at a center that is close to where you reside and also prevent you from incurring any late registration fees.
