What Is Pre Medical School?

A pre medical school is a place which will help to prepare you for when you will attend medical school. Often with these types of schools they will not major in one particular field of medicine but rather provide their students with a set of courses in order that they are well prepared for when they actually gain placement to the medical school of their choice.

However in order to attend such a school a student will need to meet certain requirements as laid out by the school and also by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). The information as to what exact requirements a student will need to gain a place on their pre-med course can be obtained from the school itself as well as the AAMC.

In order to be able to meet pre-medical school requirements students will need to have carried out studies in the following subjects.

1. General Chemistry
2. General Biology
3. Organic Chemistry
4. General Physics
5. Calculus
6. English and Writing

Some students may even be advised that they should or will need to also take upper level studies in relation to particular areas of biology and chemistry such as cellular biology, biochemistry, genetics or physical chemistry. However the actual requirements for the various pre medical courses that are available will depend upon the school that the student is wishing to attend. Plus some schools may require that their students take classes which have nothing to do with science whatsoever. Again this will be down to the school which they are looking to attend.

Certainly for those students who decide to attend a pre medical school prior to attending medical school will find the path of being accepted much easier. A lot of medical school admission boards are very impressed with those students who have shown that they are willing to spend time learning about the various different disciplines of medicine before they decide on which field of medicine they are interested in majoring in. By carrying out such training a person is showing that they are dedicated and willing to learn everything that is possible to ensure that they are able to provide the best care possible to those people who they will be looking after once they have graduated.

So if you are seriously considering that you want to pursue a career in medicine then it may well be worth your while finding out as much as you can about pre medical school and just what it can offer you.
